CAMBRIDGE -

The hiring of two new staff members, the addition of a half-time administrator and the approval of a contract with the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture

highlighted a busy and eventful Cambridge Board of Education meeting Monday night.  In a project that had been previously discussed and reported,

Cambridge Schools officially signed an agreement with NCTA for a dual-credit Diversified Agriculture Certificate. The program allows students in grades 10-12

to take college courses - up to 30 credit hours - from NCTA while attending Cambridge. The fee for each three-hour course is about $150, but can be paid

for through scholarships at the state and local level.

SENIORS CAPTURE MEMORIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS

 

 

CAMBRIDGE - Thirty seniors collected their diplomas, gave their thanks, and embraced their 13 years at Cambridge Public Schools at graduation ceremonies on
Saturday afternoon.  Seniors also collected over $575,000 worth of scholarships. Scholarships received by seniors include: Lacee Allen- Lacee is the recipient of the Josephs College Anniversary Scholarship, the American Red Cross “Young Minds Change Lives” Scholarship Presented by the FBLA.  Brandon Andrews-
Brandon is the recipient of the Lower Republican NRD Scholarship, the First Bank & Trust Company Scholarship, the Ag Valley Scholarship, the Holbrook
Lions Club Scholarship.

 

 

BEAVER CITY - The FurnasCounty Courthouse is getting a remodel with a new elevator and exercise room for the jail. Last Wednesday the Commissioners and

Contractors had an official groundbreaking for the project. River Valley Services is replacing the 1949 boiler and steam radiators with a VRV system which is one of the most efficient systems on the market today. Over time, the savings in energy costs alone will pay for the cost of the new system. That system will also get rid of the window airconditioners which are inefficient, noisy, and don't cool the building. Norton Glass is installing new windows throughout the building. This

will also help with efficiency. Arapahoe Telephone Company is installing new networking cabling for internet and telephones, and upgrades to the security systems for the law enforcement.  Garrett Plumbing and Heating of Norton is replacing all of the plumbing and fixtures. River Valley Services is replacing all of the electrical and lighting in the building. The design work was done by Engineering International of McCook.

Each year the Nebraska School Activities Association and the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association recognize students who have been nominated by their schools, based on their individual academic excellence, leadership and significant contributions made to their NSAA activity. The following leadership and scholarship guidelines shall apply: must be a varsity player or organizational leader who has played a significant role on the team or in the organizational activity during the seasons for which nominations are accepted and must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average, in all curricular subjects, of 93% or 3.7 on a 4.0-point scale or the equivalent. CAMBRIDGE - Cambridge held their annual athletic convocation on Monday night to give out the most prestigious athletic awards.  MiKayla Kent was the winner of the Rotary Girls Athlete Award and Zack Moore the winner of the Butch and Dick Luther Boys Athlete Award.  The Butch and Dick Luther Boys Athletic Award was originally presented to the school by Mrs. Zola Luther, mother of Captian Robert "Butch" Luther, a Cambridge High School athlete, who gave his life in the service of his country during World War II.  

 

 

CAMBRIDGE - Memorial Day serves a very strong and important purpose for all American citizens.  But for those who live in the Republican River Valley, it also serves as a reminder for some of the greatest natural distaster to hit Southwest Nebraska.  This weekend marks the 80th anniversary of the great Republican River Flood.  

    According to the U.S. Census, the Republican River Valley was at the height of its population in 1930.  Small family farms dotted the landscape.

CAMBRIDGE - Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) congratulates Shivaun Jaeger, MD and Kay Markut on their recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Deparment of Health and Human Services and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for their critical participation in the Outpatient Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINET) during the 2014-2015 flu season.

Going Big for School Spirt

CAMBRIDGE - Cambridge is trying to boost school spirit and pride and got some big help with the acquiring of the new Trojan mascot.  The mascot was purchased by funding from school organizations, the student body, and several local business.  Cheerleader Sponsor Genny Kubik said " I am so excited to introduce the school mascot to Cambridge Public Schools.  The students have so much work to make this dream become reality, and I think he turned out very nicely.
